Donna Clayton

Donna Marie Butikofer Clayton, 87, of Rigby, passed away April 23, 2017, at her home. Donna was under the care of Encompass Hospice of the West and her family. Donna was the oldest daughter of four, born April 10, 1930, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Frederick Warner Butikofer and Ursula Lee Butikofer. Donna spent her childhood in Coltman, Idaho, where she worked alongside her father on the farm. Donna graduated from Ucon High School and married her lifelong partner, Jack Calvin Clayton on January 12, 1949, in the LDS Temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they farmed the family farms in both Coltman and Rigby for many years. Donna served the community, the LDS Church, and her family in many ways. Throughout her life, she served in many LDS church callings, including Relief Society president at Garfield and eleven years of temple work in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Donna was awarded The Farm Bureau Woman of Year in Rigby, Idaho. Donna’s many enjoyments included quilting, gardening, Relief Society, and traveling. By far though, her greatest enjoyments came from spending time with her eleven children, thirty three grandchildren, and forty great-grandchildren. Donna was a very loving, and caring, mother and grandmother. Donna is survived by her husband, Jack Calvin Clayton of Rigby, ID; her sister, Linda Butikofer of Idaho Falls, ID; her daughter, Caroline (Alex) Clayton of Watertown, MA; her daughter, Annette (Max) Rumbaugh of Scottsdale, AZ; her son, Gerald Frederick (Sheri) Clayton of Lewisville, ID; her daughter, Lourene (Robert) Praeder of Rigby, ID; her daughter, JoAnn (Brad) Pickering of Idaho Falls, ID; her daughter, Janet (George) Mesina of Idaho Falls, ID; her son Keith Clayton of Rigby, ID; her son, Ralph (Kim) Clayton of Los Alamos, NM; her son, Brian Clayton of Idaho Falls, ID; her son Philip Clayton of Sedona, AZ; and her daughter, Pauline (Mark) Johnson of Rigby, ID. Donna has left behind a heritage of 33 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Arlene Butikofer and Margie Fox. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Rigby First Ward Building, 106 North 3800 East. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side, 962 S. Ammon Road, and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior at the church. Burial will be Ucon Cemetery.
