Donald “Don” Ellotte Waters, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Pocatello, Idaho, on February 18, 1934, to Cecile Dewayne Waters and Chole Isadora Waters, Don was a lifelong Idahoan. He was a high school athlete in Pocatello and Moore, ID, before graduating from Butte High School in 1951. After serving in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class, he pursued his passion for business, earning a degree in Business and accounting from Idaho State University and Boise Junior College.
Don’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Waters Insulation in 1967, with his brother, John, and cousin, Ross. Beyond his professional life, Don was an active member of his community, involved with the Presbyterian Church, the Civitan’s, and the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge. He was happiest in the outdoors, whether he was snowmobiling, boating, skiing, or restoring old cars. Many of his fondest memories were made at his cherished cabin in Island Park, where he welcomed countless friends and family.
Don loved restoring old cars, going to car shows and showing them off. Over the years he restored some beautiful cars from the 1930s to the late 1950s.
Don is survived by his daughters, Lori (Dennis Lindsey) Waters, and Linda (Paul) Keele, both of Idaho Falls, ID; his brother, Ronnie Waters; granddaughter, Lauren (Max) Shawver; his grandson, Sam (Diana) Keele; and his great-grandchildren, Dax, Miles, and William.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his long-time companion, Edith “Edie” Wheeler; one sister; and two brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
