Donald Stevens

After 15 months of an extended illness, Donald G. Stevens, 87, passed away January 10, 2013 surrounded by faithful family members. Don was born December 29, 1925, in Teton City, Idaho, to Sisson Arden Stevens and Edith Celestia Gillette Stevens. He grew up in the town of Driggs at the base of the beautiful Teton Mountains. He attended Teton High School and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Idaho State University. During the course of his life, he worked on an oil rig in South Dakota, as a Ford dealer auto parts manager, and then retired after 30 years as a Controller for Westinghouse Electric Corporation. During World War II, Don was drafted into the Navy before graduating from high school and served as a Sea Bee in a construction battalion in the Philippines. Many years later, Teton High School recognized his patriotism by awarding him an honorary diploma. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Beesley, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, July 1, 1952. She has been his bright and shining star, his greatest support and champion. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 31, 1991. Don and Bonnie are the parents of three children, Valerie, Donald, and Kimberlee. Married life took them to South Dakota, Rexburg, and finally Idaho Falls, Idaho. Don was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a member of the High Priest Group Leadership, where he formed many lasting friendships. Don was a man of many talents. He was able to play both the guitar and piano without reading music. He loved fly fishing on the Teton River with Bonnie. He had a passion for both skiing and golf, and was proficient in both. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; Son, Donald A. (Teresa) Stevens of Idaho Falls, ID; Daughter, Valerie (David) Fletcher of Salt Lake City, UT; Daughter, Kimberlee Stevens of Salt Lake City, Utah; Sister, Carol Henrie of Driggs, ID, and Sister, Carmen Rochell of Roy, UT; Eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don’s life will be remembered with Funeral Services at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge in Idaho Falls, on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call for one hour prior to the services at 10:00 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Fielding Memorial Park following the services. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
