Donald Olsen Smith, 62, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Salt Lake City, passed away October 14, 2011 while hunting with his brother near Bone, Idaho. Don was born November 22, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gordon William Smith and Donnetta Olsen Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Salt Lake and graduated from Highland High School. Don served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. On August 31, 1972, Don married Dianne Dickson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised three children. Dianne passed away on November 26, 2007. Don worked as a bailiff in Salt Lake and later as a security guard at the Tooele Army Depot. He moved to Idaho Falls in 2008. On January 2, 2009, he married Ginger Dee McKinlay in Idaho Falls. From April 2010 to April 2011 they were on a service mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the LDS Employment Center in Idaho Falls. Don was active in the LDS church and was currently serving as a teacher. He loved hunting, fishing, horses, his dogs, and especially spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife Ginger of Idaho Falls, ID;, son, Chuck (Alli) Smith of West Valley, UT; daughter, Betsy Smith of West Valley, UT; daughter, Dawnelle (Wayde) Tanner of Redmond, UT; stepdaughter, DeeAnn Alcorn of Idaho Falls, ID; stepdaughter, Vanessa Sanders of El Paso, TX; stepdaughter, Cat Osorio - Barrios of Bellevue, WA; stepdaughter, Brianna Goff of Idaho Falls, ID; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Glenna)Smith of Pleasant Grove, UT; and Mark (Gail) Smith of Rigby, ID; and his sister, Tammy (Brett) Smith of Midway, UT. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Larry Smith and Kelly Smith. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln 6th Ward (3102 Pinnacle Drive)with Bishop Steve Sargent officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue)and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 E. 4580 S.) in Salt Lake City under the direction of Anderson & Sons Mortuary of American Fork, UT.

Tuesday October 18, 2011 , 11:00 a.m. at Lincoln LDS 6th Ward

The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evening at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue)and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 E. 4580 S.) in Salt Lake City under the direction of Anderson & Sons Mortuary of American Fork, UT.
