DONALD O. JACOBSON SWAN VALLEY, ID -- Donald Oran Jacobson, 79, of Swan Valley, died June 8, 2006, at Teton Valley Hospital in Driggs. He was born August 30, 1926, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Oran Mead and Emma Minna Pieper Jacobson. He attended grade school at the Rainey Dell School in Swan Valley and graduated from Idaho Falls High School, in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1947 to 1949 in the Central States Mission. He married Gayle Pickett in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple June 14, 1950. They lived in Rexburg for three years and then made their home in Swan Valley. He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as a power plant operator and farmed in the Swan Valley area. Don was Bishop of the Palisades LDS Ward for seven years and also served in two other Bishoprics. He served on the East Rigby Stake High Council and was in charge of the West Piney Girls Camp for 11 years. In his later years he and his wife, Gayle, served a full-time mission at Cove Fort, Utah. He also served many years in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Don served on the Swan Valley Village Board. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and their activities. He was an avid horseman. He also loved to hunt, fish and participate in outdoor activities. Survivors: His wife, Gayle Jacobson of Swan Valley; Son, Nathan Don "Jake" (Patti) Jacobson of Idaho Falls; Daughter, Cheryl (Ray) Chatham of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Son, Delbert Blaine (Cynthia) Jacobson of Boise; Daughter, Jo Anne Matthews of Rexburg ; Son, Douglas Lynn (Tracy) Jacobson, of Rexburg; Daughter, Yvonne (Kirk) Nickerson of Howe; Son, Jay Bryant (Jeri) Jacobson of Rigby; Son, Eric Warren (Azell) Jacobson of Rexburg; Daughter, Marilee (Jon) Moe of New York, New York; Daughter, Alisa (David) Miller of Ventura, CA; Son, Dallan Kay Jacobson of Nagasaki, Japan; Sister, Carmen (Kenneth) Thomas of Iona; Sister, Carren Jacobson of Blackfoot; 40 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at the Palisades LDS Ward Chapel on the Swan Valley Highway with Bishop Blair Jacobson officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood East Side Chapel (963 S. Ammon) and Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church in Swan Valley. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
