Donald Roy Garbutt

Donald Roy Garbutt, 74, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 5, 2023.

Donald was born March 23, 1949, in Toronto, Ontario, to George Garbutt and Audrey Patricia Collins Garbutt. He attended Weber State College where he earned his bachelor degree in teaching. He served a mission to Florida from 1969 to 1971.

On February 14, 1973, he married Mary Spendlove in Salt Lake City, Utah. Donald and Mary made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Donald taught speech and drama at Clair E. Gale Junior High.

Donald was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He had many hobbies that kept him busy. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques, books, and toys. He loved reading, especially reading about history.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Garbutt of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Christina (Andy) Carlson of Reno, NV; daughter, Reva Jane (Josh) Fairbairn of Apple Valley, MN; and daughter, Beckie (Jason) King of Idaho Falls, ID; sisters, Lisa Sawatsky, Debbie Frost McGraw, and Barbara McGraw, all of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; and 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at the Sageview Ward, 1345 Clarence Drive. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wood Funeral Home to help with the cost of the service.
