Click Here To View Memorial Video Donald LeRoy Coon, 80, of Iona, passed away May 2, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Ragional Medical Center, of old age. Donald was born February 7, 1934, in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, to Everett Henry Coon and Irene Elizabeth Fisher Coon. He grew up and attended schools in Hammett, Idaho, and graduated from Glenns Ferry High School. On July 10, 1954, he married Mollie Beth Peck in Shoshone, Idaho. To this union were born four children, Jerry, Sharla, Andy, and David. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Donald and Mollie made their home in Murtaugh, Idaho, for ten years, Idaho Falls for seventeen years, Pocatello for twenty eight years, and have lived in Iona the past five years. Donald worked for Union Pacific Railroad for forty years and held many positions there. He was Section Foreman, Extra Gang Foreman, Track Inspector, Roadmaster, and General Roadmaster. He was also a Track Inspector and walked from Kansas City to Oregon inspecting each foot of track. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as genealogy instructor, and served a mission with his wife at the Pocatello Family History Center. He enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Donald is survived by his loving wife of fifty nine years, Mollie Coon of Iona, ID; son, Jerry Brent (Patsy Jo) Coon of Iona, ID; daughter, Sharla Dawn Deaton of Ammon, ID; son, Mitchell Andrew Coon of Eagle River, AK; son, David Allan (Wendy) Coon of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Shirley (Jim) Williams of Boise, ID; and 23 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Phillip Deaton. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Iona LDS First Ward, 5169 East Denning, with Bishop Randy Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
