Don William Phillips, 87, of Ammon, passed away January 8, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Don was born October 21, 1926, in Downey, Idaho, to William Edward Phillips and Alta Vivian Perkins Phillips. He grew up and attended schools in Downey and graduated from Downey High School. He also attended and graduated from the Naval Training School in Pocatello.
He proudly served as a Corporal in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific and China.
On February 27, 1948, he married Helen Janiel Swenson at Malad, Idaho. To this union were born three beautiful daughters, Kathy, Marilyn, and Joyce. Don and Janiel made their home in Idaho Falls for five years, then moved to Ammon, where they have lived ever since. Don worked as a carpenter and Carpenters Superintendent for Ovard & Collins and Aiman Construction until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing, hunting, woodworking, storytelling, and being “Papa Don.”
Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janiel Phillips of Ammon.

10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Keith, Dean, and Max Phillips.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Ammon LDS 6th Ward, 2150 Avocet Avenue, with President Randy Hurley officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
