OBITUARY INFORMATION IDAHO FALLS, ID: Donald Dick DeMott, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away 4, 2002, at the Idaho Falls Care Center following a lingering illness.
He was born December 2, 1922 at Iona, Idaho to Clyde Lee and Clara Jane Smith DeMott. He attended elementary school in Rigby, Idaho and High School in Iona.
He married Margaret Norma Smith on May 1, 1941 at Idaho Falls. He served with the United States Army during World War II in France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
After the Army, Dick and Norma made their home in Idaho Falls. On June 12, 1949 they had a son, Steven Clyde DeMott.
Dick drove truck for Teton Trading and Transportation for several years until he started driving bus at the INEEL, a position he held for 29 years until his retirement in 1985. He received numerous safe driving awards from the National Safety Council and was a member of the Million Mile Club.
An avid horseman and cowboy his whole life, Dick enjoyed helping local ranchers with their cattle, especially Rodney Payne and the Fall Creek Grazing Association. He was a member of the Iona posse and a charter member of the Bonneville Chariot Racing Association where he competed and was an outrider for many years. Dick was a musician most of his life, singing and playing rhythm guitar. He played with many local bands and musicians at night clubs and dances and with his band The Westerners. Until shortly before his death, he played weekly at nursing homes throughout the valley. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Norma, a son, Steven Clyde (Sharla)DeMott, grandchildren, Richard (Tonya) DeMott, Keylee DeMott, Steven Cody (Amy) DeMott and Daniel John DeMott; Great Grandchildren, Race, Moryah and Dakota. His is also survived by a brother, James Andrew DeMott, Rexburg
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Mark and Doris DeMott.
FUNERAL SERVICESFuneral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward, with Bishop Steve Hunter of Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward officiating.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402-4092.
