Derwon Henry Landon, 85, of Shelley, passed away March 22, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 19, 1926, in Kimball, Idaho, to Henry R and Althora Gene Martin Landon. He attended schools in Goshen, Taylor, and Mackay, before graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He served as Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines.
Derwon married his sweetheart, Wanda Johnson, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple June 4, 1947. They were completely devoted to each other. He gave his children the greatest gift – he loved their mother – and he expressed his love for her often both privately and publicly. He loved his children when they were small and, as they grew, loved spending time with them and their families. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments. and always supported them in their activities. He has a deep and abiding testimony and would share it often.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in numerous callings as Elders Quorum President, Young Men's President, Seventies President, High Priest Group Leader, and Ward and Stake Missionary. He also served with his wife as a Temple Worker.
Derwon was a farmer, mechanic, welder, millwright, and foreman at Hallway Manufacturing Company, Simplot, and INL. He was very patriotic and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Derwon was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint, and played the violin for his family's enjoyment. He supported his children's schools and was a fan of Ricks and BYU. He also enjoyed fishing and working on cars with his boys and would lend a hand and give to anyone. He was highly respected and loved by all those he worked with and served.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, and his children Luana (Darold) Anderson, Mesa, AZ; Paula Landon, Orem, UT; Mark (Vickie) Landon, New Sweden, ID; Julie (Harold) Rader, Reno, NV; Chad Landon, Ammon, ID; Rene (Lynne) Landon, Rexburg, ID; and Von (Kristen) Landon, Highland, UT; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his brothers Amle, Dennis, and Verle, and sisters, Raola Myler, Reta Kennel, Loma Landon, Shannon Franck, and Sharon Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and siblings, Irvin Landon, Alden Landon, and Peggy Wilson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Shelley LDS South Stake Center, 675 S Milton. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, Idaho Falls, and Thursday from 10-10:40 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bingham County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
