Deren Ipsen Bowman, 69, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 20, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was under the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Deren was born May 19, 1956, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Jack Elgin Bowman and Florence Ada Ipsen Bowman. He grew up and attended schools in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School. He also attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Agronomy. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas Houston Mission. He also served as a Private First Class in the United States Air Force Reserves.
On May 31, 1978, he married Flossie Lucinda Perkins in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. Deren and Flossie lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho, over the past 30 years, where he worked as the Superintendent for Sage Lakes Golf Course. He began his Superintendent career at Willow Creek in Sandy, Utah; and continued his career at Golf Course of Sun Valley Company; Teton Lakes; and Rexburg Municipal Golf Course. He also worked at Melaleuca for over 20 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was very active in the Golf Course Superintendent Association (GCSA) and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, sports, westerns, bowling, tennis, music, coaching youth, and was an avid BYU fan. He played the trumpet in a jazz band and in the Symphony while attending Ricks College.
Deren is survived by his wife, Flossie Bowman of Idaho Falls; sons, Mason (Kimberly) Bowman, Kent (Sarah) Bowman, Vance (Julianne) Bowman, and Devin (Andrea) Bowman; daughters, Cassie (Jared) Calderwood, and Ashlie (Nikolas) Mardis; sister, Lisa Miyasaki; brothers, Paul (Sharie) Bowman, Todd Bowman, and John (Deborah) Bowman; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Bradley Miyasaki.
Family services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7:30-9 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery where Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Air Force Honor Guard.
