Dennis "Joe" Cohea, 82, of Roberts, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on June 16, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Dennis was born January 21, 1941, in Tulare, CA, to James Dennis Cohea and Elsie Spratt Cohea.
On March 3, 1959, he married Guadalupe “Lupe”, in Los Angeles, CA. Dennis and Lupe made their home in Roberts, Idaho, where Dennis worked at Idahoan Foods and also was working as a butcher. He was a guidance counselor at the ARA House in Idaho Falls, and also worked as a butcher and rancher in Wyoming and Montana starting in the 1960's.
He enjoyed Native American beadwork, tanning hides, drums, making buckskin dresses, Native American crafts, native drumming and singing, Old Time Fiddler, and was a history buff. He passed down Native American culture and taught about the Sweat Lodge. He was addicted to karaoke.
Dennis is survived by his loving children, Thomas B. Welch of NE, William Henry Cohea of NM, Carol Ann (Jerry) Harkness of ID, Winona Lee (James) Grover of ID; sisters, Martha Haws of AZ, Nancy (Karl) Kalbough of MO; brother, Phil Cohea of MT.; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lupe Cohea; parents, James and Elsie Cohea; and grandson, George Dewey.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Roberts, Idaho ( 2862 E 650 N). The family will be having a give-a-way at a later date.
