Delwin Evan Russell, 82, of Ammon, passed away August 24, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. He was born January 12, 1935, in Grant, Idaho, to Edward Jackson Russell and Hazel Vinona Taysom Russell. He grew up attending schools in Ammon and Shelley, Idaho. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1953. It was the end of the Korean War and he served as Sergeant in the Tank Battalion. Delwin married June Heileson in August 1957. They had three children. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Together, he and June took pride in their children, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked at Rocky Mountain Gas Company, Petrolane, then later Intermountain Gas Company, where he worked for 35 years until he retired in 1998. Delwin enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time on the lake on their boat. He was an avid hunter and was almost always successful getting game. He was a happy and fun-loving guy and was always known for his great sense of humor. Many of his friends and co-workers referred to him as "Smiley."
Delwin is survived by his wife, June Russell; children, Monte Russell of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Gina (John) Bailey of Firth, ID, and Tamra (Dave) Standley of Ammon, ID; brothers, Dale and Ronald Russell of Idaho Falls; and a sister Eloyce Talamantez of Idaho Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Twila Humphries; and brothers, Gerald and LaVoy Russell. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, both times at Wood Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Firth-Riverview Cemetery, where Military Rites will be performed by the Bingham County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
