Deloris “Sally” Jensen passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She was born April 27, 1932, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the second of seven children born to John Amos Rhoades and Sarah Edna Goodson Rhoades. She grew up with an older sister, Josephine, two younger sisters, Ruby and Betty Ann, and three younger brothers, Jay, John, and Dennis. While growing up she attended schools in Idaho Falls, Ammon, and Swan Valley, Idaho, and Butte and Melrose, Montana. She graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1950.
After graduation she took a beauty school course at Ex-Cel-Cis. She enjoyed working on hair and became the lifelong stylist for her family. She worked several places throughout her life and met the love of her life, Jarvis Don Jensen, while working at J. J. Newbury’s. They were married September 11, 1954. On July 6, 1955, her son, Jerald, was born, on July 5, 1959, her daughter, Deborah, was born, on April 5, 1961, her son, Jeffrey, was born, and on June 12, 1963, her daughter, Deanna, was born. In November, 1963, Deloris and Jarvis were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Deloris loved to dance and tried to teach all of her children to dance. She was on a bowling league for years and enjoyed spending time with her husband and friends while bowling. She also enjoyed camping and fishing trips with her family and friends, which were always fun for all involved. She loved to crochet, sew, and cook, and made afghan’s for each of her children and grandchildren. She loved to take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which were the light of her life. She, in turn, was the light of their lives, too.
Deloris was “Mom” to many children who came into her life. Many of her nieces and nephews considered her their second mom and always came to her for support when they were hurting or needed advice. All of her children’s friends called her ‘mom’ and loved her as much as she loved them. She had a heart of gold and more than enough love for everyone in her life. She will be greatly missed.
Deloris was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. She served as secretary in Sunday School, Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations. She also served as a counselor and President in the Relief Society.
Deloris is survived by her children, Jerald D. (Carma) Jensen, Deborah A. (Edward) Johnson, Jeffrey D. (Wanda) Jensen, and Deanna M. (Kelly) Staples; brothers, Jay and John Rhoades, sister, Ruby Vineyard and Betty Ann Kerr, and 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
Deloris is preceded in death by her husband, Jarvis, her parents, John and Edna, her sister, Josephine Winder, and her brother, Dennis Rhoades.
