Delores Fay "Dee" Archbold Edwards, 87 of Shelley, Idaho passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2017.
Dee was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1929, to Marcel Love Archibold and Myrtle Irene Yount. She never graduated from high school, instead she married her friend and partner in life, Willard Lee Edwards in April of 1947, at the age of 17, and gave birth to a daughter, Laura Leigh, in October of that same year. And, yes . . . we've done the math. Lee & Dee celebrated 70 years of marriage in April, just days before Lee passed away from kidney failure.
Dee worked 35 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company (later AT&T) and became an invaluable, award-winning employee. Dee loved music, especially symphony and opera, and often attended both with friends and family. She spent a great deal of time helping others, both through charitable organizations and on an individual basis.
She and her husband, Lee, enjoyed playing bridge, going to Nebraska Cornhusker football games, traveling and, of course, golfing, which eventually took them to Sun City West, Arizona, where they lived for 30 years after retiring. Dee spent years "learning" - her word - the piano. She was a wonderful cook and her holiday dinners will never be forgotten. No one went hungry when Dee was around (she'd ask over and over if you'd had enough food). She was also known to serenade her granddaughter while waking her up, washing her hair or teaching her housekeeping skills. But, more than anything, she adored her dogs. She was mother to a dog (one at a time) her entire adult life: Andrew Carnagie, Brandy, Archie, and during her last years, Eddy. They, too, were loved, and fed well by Dee.
Dee was a 20 year survivor of fallopian tube cancer. Dementia eventually took her life. She will be remembered fondly and with love by her surviving family, daughter, Laura (Mike) Haddix; granddaughter, Beci (Jim) Beck; grandsons, Trevor (Susie) and Tyler (Megan) Haddix; her sister Darlene Turnquist; 8 great grandchildren (Jesse, Falon, Jackson, Henry, TJ, Katelyn, Taylor and Mackenzie) and 2 great-great granddaughters (Shiloh & Shayne).
The family would like to thank the staff of Eastern Idaho Hospice and The Gables of Shelley for caring so kindly for Delores during her final months.
No services will be held. However, all are encouraged to raise a glass of wine and toast a most gracious, classy and lovely woman.
