Delma Gilbert Mitchell, 86, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away August 7, 2016, at The Gables of Ammon Assisted Living Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was under the care of Solace Hospice. Delma was born January 9, 1930, in Fairview, Idaho, to Hazen Athling Gilbert and Naomi Forsgren Gilbert. She attended Oneida Academy and graduated from Preston High School. She attended the University of Idaho and later graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and earned an Idaho Teaching Certificate. In February 1952, she married Duane L. Mitchell and they were later divorced. To this union were born four children: Roxane, Rex, Sally, and Kasey. Delma worked as a fourth grade teacher at Roberts Elementary for twenty years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a full-time service mission in Vietnam. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and sewing. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her fondest memories centered around her family and her childhood spent on the family dairy farm in Fairview, Idaho. Delma is survived by her daughter, Roxane (Jim) Pfister of Logan, UT; son, Rex Gilbert (LeeAnn) Mitchell of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Sally (Dale) Baldwin of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kasey Duane (Sarah) Mitchell of Riverton, UT; brother, Dallas (Joyce) Gilbert of Fairview, ID; sister, Garnet (Phil) Bradbury of Perry, UT; sister, Claris Giles of Ogden, UT; sister, Geri (Brent) Gunderson of Henderson, NV; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazen and Naomi Gilbert, and three sisters (Nada Pfleger, Nelyne Tarbet, and Mickey Cutler). The family would like to express their appreciation to The Gables of Ammon and Solace Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Scott Wilde, First Counselor in the Ammon LDS 5th Ward Bishopric, officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
