Our dear father, grandfather, and friend, Delbert Wade Wadsworth, passed from this mortal life on May 2, 2026, at the age of 93, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, surrounded by family.
Delbert was born on May 29, 1932, in Taylor, Idaho (Shelley area), to Lawrence and Hilda Hampton Wadsworth. He spent his early years on the family farm, where hard work wasn’t optional—it was simply how life was done. By 1935, the family moved to Idaho Falls, where his father continued farming and later worked as a plumber and carpenter. His mother, Hilda, carried on strong family roots in farming and was known for her many talents.
Delbert attended Idaho Falls High School, graduating in 1950. Shortly after, in August of that same year, he was drafted into the military as an auto mechanic. He served during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars upon his discharge in April 1952.
Like many in his family, Delbert found his way into the construction trades. He worked alongside his brothers and spent many years with Wadsworth Construction helping build roads and bridges across Idaho and Utah. If something needed fixing, building, or figuring out, Delbert usually had a way—and more than a few opinions—about how it should be done.
He also had a lifelong love of music. In his younger years, he was a lead singer in small bands throughout Idaho and Wyoming, and later in life he kept the music going as a karaoke jockey. He enjoyed being around people, good conversation, and a good tune—especially if he could join in.
Delbert was known as a bit of a maverick and a determined free thinker. He wasn’t afraid to stand his ground, especially when it came to government policies or anything he felt didn’t make sense. He had a sharp, logical mind and didn’t shy away from using it. At the same time, he was generous with his time and talents and was always willing to help someone in need—whether they asked for help or not.
Family time mattered to Delbert. He especially enjoyed gatherings at Palisades Reservoir, Lake Powell, snowmobiling or anywhere on his hand-built boat. If there was a project, an engine, or something mechanical involved, he was in his element.
Delbert married Barbara Ball on February 25, 1959, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they raised five children: Kurt, Cherie, Troy, Scott, and Cory. Life took them many places over the years, and though they later divorced, they remained a part of each other’s lives.
In 1995, Delbert married Darlene French. They lived in White Bird, Idaho, and later divorced.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hilda; his siblings, Golden, Belva, Keith, and Ralph; his former wife, Barbara; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Kurt (+22 wives), Cherie (Robert), Troy, Scott, and Cory (Patrece); 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren, along with many who will carry forward his stories, his stubborn streak, and his ability to fix just about anything.
Delbert spent the last three years of his life in Idaho Falls, where he was cared for by his son, Scott and his granddaughter, Taylina, but always thought of his favorite, Kresha, whose love and dedication meant a great deal to him. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Gables of Idaho Falls and Eagle Rock Rehabilitation for their care and kindness.
Graveside services will be held June 6, 2026, in Taylor Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Cremation services are under the direction of Woods Funeral Home.
We take comfort in knowing he has returned home and is at peace, reunited with those who have gone before him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
