Delbert Myrland Simonsen

Delbert Myrland Simonsen, 85, of Ririe, passed away peacefully September 17, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Del was born March 17, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Rangwald and Edna Nelson Simonsen. He grew up and attended schools in the Idaho Falls area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961, including 13 months in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he followed his father’s line of work as a painter.

He married Bobbie June Thomas on June 23, 1962, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 23, 1982. They moved to Ririe in 1971, and Del worked at the INL as a painter until he retired in 2001.

Del enjoyed camping, rafting the Snake River, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and he especially loved being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; their two sons, Jeff Steven Simonsen (Terry) and Dean Ray Simonsen; two grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
