Del Ray John, 80, of Victor, passed away December 10, 2025, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice.

Del Ray was born June 24, 1945, in Kirkland, Washington. He was raised in Firth, Idaho, by Elmer John and Norma Hess John. He graduated from Firth High School, attended Ricks College and BYU, and earned a bachelor’s in oceanography. He began a long career in radio at KBLI in Blackfoot.

On May 21, 1988, he married Lynda Dawnel Waid in Idaho Falls. Del Ray and Lynda made their home in Victor, Idaho, where Del Ray was a long-standing radio personality for Jackson Hole Radio. He was the Voice of Jackson Hole and a beloved community member.

He was cofounder of the Freedom Birds, an informal group of veterans across Eastern Idaho. The group was instrumental in the development and installation of the Vietnam Memorial in Idaho Falls. Del Ray enjoyed spending all of the time he could riding his motorcycle or turning strangers into lifelong friends.

Del Ray is survived by his wife, Lynda John of Victor, ID; daughter, Kaisha (Mike) Daley of Poplarville, MS; sons, Justin (Valerie) John and Jeremy (Aspen Tree) John, both of Victor, ID; brother, LaMar (Verna Rae) John of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Diana Bell of Donalds, SC; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Primary Children’s Hospital.
