Dee Edwin Stacey, 79, formerly of Shelley, passed peacefully from this world Thursday, October 9, 2014, at his home in Idaho Falls.
Dee was born June 16, 1935, on his grandparent’s dry farm in Poplar, Idaho to James William Stacey and Ora Killian Stacey. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby, and graduated from Rigby High School in 1954. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and in the Army Reserve thereafter. It was while he was stationed in Germany that he met the love of his life, Blanka Eleanora Leitenmaier. He and Blanka were married October 23, 1959. From this union, two daughters were born: Doris in 1960 and Judy in 1963.
Dee was a hard-working cowboy and free spirit, working in construction and choosing the path less traveled by being a self-employed masonry contractor and bricklayer for more than twenty years of his adult life. No job was too small for Dee, and all of them reflected his uncompromising attention to detail and superior craftsmanship. He was proud of his work, and on any drive through town loved to point out the jobs he had done and the stories behind them. He was a skilled mechanic by technical education and practice, and was able to fix most mechanical problems on his automobiles and farm equipment.
While hard work was his vocation, the outdoors were his vacation. Dee loved fishing, hunting, camping and huckleberry picking in Idaho, and took great pleasure in doing these things with his family.
He was most proud of his family and could often be heard bragging about his wife, daughters and his grandchildren. And though his girls moved far from home, he always made time to travel to see them and the grandkids.
Dee is survived by his daughters, Doris (Wane) Bull, Judy (Bret) Wilkinson, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Blanka; sister, Ida Lindstrom; brothers, Jay Stacey and Leon Stacey; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Stacey.
