Click Here To View Memorial Video On Wednesday, April 22, 2015, the Lord called up his #1 BYU fan, Debra Jo Hix Johnson, back to play for the “home” team. Debbie passed away from a heart attack at her home. On March 7, 1961, a beautiful, big brown eyed baby girl was born to Nita K. Gneiting Hix and Ronald C Hix in Idaho Falls. Debbie attended school at Longfellow Elementary, Ammon Junior High School and graduated with honors from Bonneville High School in 1979. Debbie loved high school and participated in the Honey Bees Marching Team, ski club and many other clubs. She was a proud “B.” She moved to Provo, Utah, where she attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from BYU-Provo. BYU meant the world to Debbie. The BYU alumni magazine published an article featuring her as the #1 BYU fan. She was proud to tell everyone she met how she had collected hundreds of BYU memorabilia. She loved her BYU Cougars. Debbie married and was a loving mother to a set of twins, a girl, Rylee Jo Johnson, and a boy, Colby Randall Johnson. Debbie suffered many trials in her life. Health issues plagued her for many years. She so loved her two children and expressed how proud she was of their recent accomplishments. Her children were a bright spot in her life. Debbie worked for the City of Provo as a systems analyst for most of her working years. She provided computer support at the Provo Ice Center for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics. She was very proud when they presented her with an official jacket and Olympic pin for her efforts. Debbie loved her job. Debbie spent many years helping others. She had a passion for putting others first. She was artistic and a fantastic decorator. She did amazing work putting together weddings for friends and family. Debbie was a great poet, writer and joke teller. After spending nearly 20 years in Provo, Debbie moved back to Idaho Falls to be closer to her family. Though her heart kept her from doing many of the things she enjoyed, she was forever a “spit fire” and always the life of the party. She had an adorable town home, which she shared with her dog and loyal companion, Emmee. Debbie reached out daily to others in need, especially her Aunt Allonna and Aunt Judie. She enjoyed going to movies and shopping with her cousin, Evy Jo, and loved being close to her mom and dad. Debbie never met a person who didn’t immediately become her friend. She had a tender heart and a quick wit. Debbie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed attending the temple. She had submitted papers and was looking forward to serving a mission in Salt Lake City. Debbie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Florence Hix and Lester and Donna Gneiting. Debbie is survived by her parents, Ron and Nita; children, Rylee and Colby; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Robert McCowin. She will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
