Obituary

Deborah "Debbie" Mae Benkenstein Lyon, 73, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 30, 2026. She was born on September 19, 1952, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Debbie married the love of her life, Darrell Kay Lyon, on June 4, 1971. He preceded her in death. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and creativity. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, Jared Kay Lyon, Derek Kay Lyon, and Brandon Kay Lyon, whom she cherished deeply.

Debbie worked at Ben Franklin and Porters Crafts, where she happily supported her lifelong passion for crafting. She had a special talent for quilting, doll-making, and all kinds of creative projects. Her hands were rarely still, and her creations will be treasured by those who knew and loved her.

Her greatest joy in life was her family-especially her grandchildren- followed closely by her beloved animals, including her dogs, cats, and chickens. Debbie had a warm, friendly personality, a beautiful smile, and a heart full of kindness. She was known for her caring nature and unwavering dedication to the people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Kay Lyon; her sister, Deanna Wayne; her brother-in-law, Steven Wayne; her parents, William “Fred” and Darlene Benkenstein; and her brother-in-law, Stanley Jones.

Debbie is survived by her children and grandchildren, Jared Lyon and Reena, and their children, Izzy, Patrick, Charlie, and Finn, Derek Lyon and Tammy Glover, Brandon Lyon and Shanna and their children, Teagan (Kaura) and Dillon Holm, and Tallon and Ryden Lyon; siblings, Robert (Mia) Benkenstein, Bill Benkenstein, Dawnetta (Randy) Severinsen, Doriesa Jones, and Dalena (Mike) Olsen.

Debbie’s presence brought comfort and joy to so many, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
