Deanne Hally

Deanne J. Hally - 10/31/2002 Deanne J. Hally - 10/31/2002 DEANNE HALLY IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Deanne Jones Hally, 58, of Idaho Falls, a devoted mother, wife, artist, and Idaho Falls' “Cookie Lady,” died in Torremolinos, Spain, on October 22, 2002, while traveling with her husband, after an eight-year battle with cancer. She was born August 19, 1844, in Provo, Utah, to Dale and Leah Jones. At the age of six, her family moved to Pocatello. Her earliest memory was drawing pictures at the kitchen table. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1962. She attended Idaho State University as an art major, and married Thomas Hally in 1963. They lived in Blackfoot, Pocatello and then moved to Idaho Falls in 1979, where Deanne became a prominent watercolor artist. Her paintings of the Tetons and irises are well-known throughout the nation. She has received numerous awards, including first place in the Idaho Watercolor Society this year. Deanne was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 and was only given six months to live. From that day forward she lived every day to the fullest, serving others and loving people. She was successful in her crusade to get the insurance company to provide bone-marrow transplant coverage for breast cancer patients. Her resilience and faith have been an inspiration to everyone around her. Defying the odds, she surprised doctors throughout the country by living eight more years, during which time she focused on what was most important to her - spending time with loved ones. She wanted to make a difference for young people in her community, so on Tuesdays she baked cookies for all the kids in her neighborhood. The school buses stopped at her home so she could pass out warm cookies as she memorized the names of each child. She soon became known as The Cookie Lady, and would sometimes have over 100 eager children at her door. Deanne was a world traveler, often painting favorite scenes from her excursions. She frequently stopped along the road to study the beauty in simple things - like the rich autumn palette of a changing aspen. She spent much of her last few months traveling with family or visiting her grandchildren, who fondly remember many “cousin trips” orchestrated by their “Grambug.” Survivors include her husband, Thomas Hally, of Idaho Falls; three sons, Greg (Cindy) Hally of Bountiful, UT, Cary (Renee) Hally of Walnut Creek, CA, and Troy (Julie) Hally of Portland, OR; one daughter, Camille Hally of Salt Lake City, UT; her parents, Dale and Leah Jones of Pocatello; three brothers, Ronald Jones of San Marcos, CA, Kenneth (Jolene) Jones, Bradley Jones of Boise; one sister, Caryn (Keith) Esplin of Blackfoot; and 12 Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley Jones. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS South Stake Center, 2051 South Emerson, with Bishop Brian Hill of the Idaho Falls LDS Shamrock Park Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
