Dean Singley Soelberg, 90, of St. George, passed away after a courageous battle with Acute Leukemia on January 25, 2014, at Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, Utah. Dean was born November 14, 1923, in Washington, D.C., to Earl James Soelberg and Exie Alberta Singley Soelberg. He grew up and attended schools in Rexburg and Idaho Falls. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On June 6, 1941, he married Joy Hoffman. Together they had four children, Richard, JoyLynn, Diann, and Robert. They made their first home in Idaho Falls where he worked as a sheep farmer. They lived in Arco for eighteen years where he farmed, built and owned a service station and worked as an iron worker for Westinghouse at the site. He also worked as rigger on the Teton Dam. After close to sixty years of marriage, Joy passed away March 29, 2002. On June 20, 2007, he married Mary Kathryn (Donnell) Bailey in St. George, Utah. Dean and Mary made their winter home in St. George and summered near Palisades in a cabin Dean built over forty years ago. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived life to the fullest. He loved four-wheeling, and was four-wheeling right up to his 90th birthday. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal and wood working in his earlier years; in his later years, playing cards and spending time with his family. Dean was known for his wonderful sense of humor and knew no stranger. Dean is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Mary Soelberg of Saint George, UT; son, Richard and Debby Soelberg of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, JoyLynn (Kenny) Moore of Ammon, ID; daughter, Diann (Larry) Kaivo of Kingston, WA; son, Robert (Kimberly) Soelberg of Las Vegas, NV; 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren 8 great great grandchildren four sisters, Eileen McKinney, Betty (Keith) Larsen, Renée (Lloyd) Page, and Marilyn (Dennis) Morrow. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joy, three brothers, and one grandson. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Tiebreaker LDS Ward, 1100 Tiebreaker, in Ammon. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
