Dean Fredrick Pfost, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 4, 2011 at Ridge Wind Emeritus Assisted Living Community in Chubbuck. He was under the care of his family and Creekside Home Health and Hospice. Dean was born August 16, 1926, in Hibbard, Idaho to George Ludwig Pfost and Eva Mae Higley Pfost. He was raised by his grandmother, Christina Pfost. He grew up in the Hibbard area and graduated from Madison High School. He continued his education at Ricks College. Dean served his country in the United States Merchant Marines as a Radio Operator First Class during World War II. On July 9, 1949, he married Atella Colleen Reynolds in Boise. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple On July 30, 1954. Together they raised five children in Idaho Falls. They later lived in Palm Springs, CA and Glenns Ferry, ID. Dean was a hard worker and liked building things. He built, owned, and operated Deans TV and found joy in this occupation. He also enjoyed his cabin, family, ham radios, gardening, carpentry, fishing, traveling, and “frizzle” cooking. Dean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions, including an Elders Quorum President, Stake High Councilman, Executive Secretary, and a Bishop. He served two LDS church missions with his wife: one to Alaska and one to Pennsylvania. Dean was also involved with the Lions Club. The family would like to express their gratitude to the care givers in the Memory Unit at Ridgewind Emeritus Assisted living Community in Pocatello and Creekside Home Health and Hospice. Survivors include: Wife: Kolleen Pfost of Pocatello, ID; Daughter: Debbie (Greg) Maynard of South Jordan, UT; Daughter: Judy (Ed) Scott of Pocatello, ID; Daughter: Jan (Rolly) Zollinger of Hagerman, ID; Son: David (Debra)Pfost of Rigby, ID; Son: Eric (Mary Kay)Pfost of North Ogden, UT; 21 Grandchildren; and 27 Great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Idonna Pfost Nelson; and his stepbrother, LaVar Pfost. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS 14th Ward (651 Gladstone Street) with Bishop Dean Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and 10 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
