IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Dean Y. Marshall, 89, of the Osgood area, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of a septic infection and causes incident to age.
Dean was born January 16, 1921, in Sunnyside, Carbon County, Utah, to LeRoy and Mamie Vilate Young Marshall. He spent the first 14 years of his life in Price, Utah. In 1935 his family moved to the Osgood area northwest of Idaho Falls, Idaho, rented land from the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, and began farming. They lived about three quarters of a mile east of the Osgood School on the present-day Paine Road. High school students from the Osgood area were bussed to Ammon in the 1930s, so Dean attended high school in Ammon. He graduated from Ammon High School in 1939. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
On February 28, 1940, Dean married his high school sweetheart, Ceola Purcell, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. That spring he and Ceola started farming on the Osgood project. For five years in the early 1950s, Dean ran the pumping station and was the water master for the Shattuck Irrigation District. He continued to farm in the Osgood area until he retired in 1978. He has lived in the Osgood area for 75 years.
Dean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church positions, including Bishop of the Osgood Ward. He and Ceola served two missions for the Church, one in Nauvoo, Illinois, and the other in Papua New Guinea. They also served as officiators in the Idaho Falls Temple for almost 18 years. Ceola passed away February 23, 2007.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Ceola, an infant son, Ryan Kay, his two sisters, Gean Marshall, and Glenna Lee (Ethan) Anderson, and a brother, Norman Y (LaDean) Marshall. He is survived by his other children, Adeana (Davidjohn) Stosich of Idaho Falls, Linda Rae (Bruce) Pitt of Centerville, Utah, and Gary L (Ramona) Marshall of Osgood. He has 28 grandchildren and 102 great-grandchildren, all of which are living.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the Osgood LDS Ward, 7940 North 35th West, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.

Dear Marshall Family,
We're saddened to hear of the death of your father and grandfather, but oh, what a wonderful reunion he is having with his sweetheart, family members, and many friends.
We loved this man for his goodness and his pleasing personality. He and your mother and grandmother were two of our dearest friends. Their friendship has lasted through time and will last throughout all eternity.

We know this is a sad time for all family members, and we send our love and best wishes.

Fond memories of our older cousins, Dean and Norm. What a treat it was when they would come back to Price usually in the fall to visit. Clark and I looked up them and they always held a special place in our hearts.

Dear Marshall family, I am so sorry for the passing of your Dad, Husband, Grandpa, and friend. What a neat guy, the stories, we as a family, heard about Dean and family - lots of laughs, stories of friendships shared, to the point we felt like you were part of our family. He left a legacy to be proud of. I am so sorry he is gone.

Adeana, we send our condolences to you and your family with the passing of your father. I have many kind memories of him and know that he will be missed by all of you. But he is now with his sweetheart. What a blessing to know this is the case. We were unable to come to the viewing or funeral because we are serving a mission at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors' Center and we on assignment there during both. Our love goes out to you and your family. John Rawlins

Because of previous commitments, I wasn't able to be to the funeral, and I missed seeing and being with your family so much. Lynn said the service was lovely, and you all did a wonderful job. Your parents trained you well. I hate that all our dear parents are gone, but I'll bet they were so glad to see each other again. Pretty soon all of the old timers of Osgood will be together--heaven help us!! Makes moving on much less scary to think of all the sweet souls waiting for us. Your dad was one of the very sweetest ever created. I love him, and all of you dearly. You are all a part of my dearest memories. How blessed we are to have been born to such wonderful people. But, now they are missed all the more. Thank you for your love and friendship to the Nickell clan.
