Dean Richard Johnston, 61, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Salt Lake City, Utah, of heart failure. His family was at his side.
He was born October 10, 1951, in Preston, Idaho, the third child of Eldon Richard Johnston and Enid Woolsey Johnston. His father passed when he was 11 years old; he and his mother shared a special bond. He attended schools in Preston, graduating from Preston High School and continuing his education studying accounting at Brigham Young University. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Philippines, a nation and a people for whom he had a lifetime love.
Dean moved with his family to Idaho Falls in 1976. He found great satisfaction in his work as an accountant, finishing his career working for the Shoshone Bannock Tribes. He loved living in Idaho Falls and contributed to the community for several years as a member of the Kiwanis Club and a volunteer at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was a charter member of the Southeast Idaho Chapter of the National Association of Accountants and served on the Office Occupation Advisory Board for Eastern Idaho Technical College. His favorite times were spent exploring the Grand Teton and Yellowstone region with his family. He was curious and a lifetime learner.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he lived and worshipped in the Idaho Falls 26th Ward for 36 years. There he served in various callings, including Ward Mission Leader, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Executive Secretary, Bishop's First Counselor, Ward and Stake Financial Clerk, and teacher in the High Priest Group.
Dean was a loving father whose greatest joy came from his family.
