Dean Merlin Ferney, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 6, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of natural causes.
Dean was born July 27, 1927, in Drummond, Idaho, to Merlin George Ferney and Leona Atkinson Ferney. He attended schools in Ashton and graduated from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony. He served in the U. S. Navy Reserves during World War II. He later attended Ricks College and Utah State University.
He married Jacquolin "Jackie" Glover Ferney January 2, 1948 in Ashton. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple July 28, 1995. They lived in the Rexburg area for 26 years, where he and Jackie raised their family. They later moved to Idaho Falls 28 years ago. Dean owned and managed the Credit Bureau and Medical Account Billing Service in Rexburg, Idaho. Jackie passed away January 4, 2009.
Dean married Nita Adams Beasley October 16, 2009, in Idaho Falls.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a High Priest and served in various capacities over the years. He served for several years as a volunteer at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow skiing, oil painting, golf, and camping.
Dean is survived by his wife, Nita Ferney, a daughter, Kristine Chapman of Lava Hot Springs, ID; and two sons, Bradley D. (Gay) Ferney of Idaho Falls and Curtis L. (Tammy) Ferney of Rexburg; a brother, Gail Ferney of Thermopolis, WY; 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jacquolin Ferney.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS 14th Ward, 651 Gladstone, with Bishop Dean Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
