David Lynn Wood

David Lynn Wood passed away July 14, 2026, at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, after a lifelong battle with chronic illness. He was surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family.

David was born September 8, 1970, to George Lynn Wood and Venetta Jean Gardner Wood in Murray, Utah. He attended grade school there, and graduated from Murray High School in 1988. David grew into himself later in his high school years, finding increased confidence and lifelong friends in the Drama Department. He often fondly recalled his experiences participating in productions like “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “A Thurber Carnival,” and “42nd Street.”

David was a faithful, lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a firm testimony and love for the Savior and His gospel. David served a full time LDS mission. His service included time in both Bordeaux and Marseille, France. David mastered the French language and developed a tremendous love for the country, it’s people, and it’s culture. In France, David had the privilege of serving under Elder Neil L. Anderson, currently of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. David spoke of his great love and respect for President Anderson his entire life, noting that the Christ-like love he felt from President Anderson was something he will never ever forget.

After his mission, David graduated from the Surgical Technology Program at Salt Lake Community College. He excelled in anatomy, and after graduating, was soon training other students as a Preceptor. He quickly became the favorite of many doctors, who frequently requested him personally during surgery. He loved talking medical jargon with any medical professional he came across.

David married in 1994, and had three children. He loved his children, Alex, Jacob, and Hayden, with his whole heart. One of his greatest desires was to be a good father. He took solace in the words of the Prophet Joseph Smith, who promised, “All your losses will be made up to you in the resurrection, provided you continue faithful.” To Alex, Jacob, and Hayden, Proverbs 18:17.

David loved truth and was very empirical. He saw many things as black and white, and was not afraid to defend issues he felt passionate about. Many times, his passion and way of seeing things could make relating to other people difficult, and visa versa. David never stopped longing for closer relationships with those he loved. He so appreciated those who took the time to get to know and understand him.

David later met Malinda, who was the true love of his life. They were married on June 18, 2011, for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was devoted and true, and his greatest wish was for her to be happy. Her fortitude through life's many trials gave him strength and purpose.

Dave loved Yellowstone Nat'l Park. He enjoyed wild life sightings, geysers, and, as a surgical tech, placing bets on when the season's first bison goring would be. 😆 Dave and Malinda later found a new love in Grand Teton Nat'l Park. They looked forward to their annual boat ride and breakfast on Jackson lake. David had the heart of a poet, expressing a wide range of lyrical emotions through the pen. He could quote Seinfeld with the best of them. He loved collecting coins, huckleberry picking, especially with his boys, and sharing his favorite French chocolate with family and friends.

Dave faced life's many trials and struggles with incredible courage and optimism, extraordinary patience, and unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are so excited that he is now free, that he is now home. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

David is survived by his loving wife, Malinda; and their siblings, Machelle and Jared Littlefield of Rexburg, ID, Ryan and KayDee Singleton of Idaho Falls, ID, Russell and Jocelyn Singleton of Meridian, ID, Darren and Andrea Singleton of Idaho Falls, ID, Julie and Mike Hamberlin of Tooele, UT, Jean and Rod Sweet of West Jordan, UT; and his children, Alex, Jacob, and Hayden Wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, Idaho Falls, Idaho, 83402. The family will meet with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, followed by a family prayer. Interment at New Sweden Cemetery will immediately follow, located at 3500 W 33rd S, Idaho Falls, ID, 83402.
