David William Otvos Jr., 68, passed away quietly at his home in Idaho Falls on July 16th, 2013.
Dave was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 20th 1944 to David William Otvos Sr. and Helen Otvos. Dave was married to his wife of 43 years Claire Nelson on August 3rd, 1968 .
After serving in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the Army, Dave returned to Idaho Falls where he excelled at photography, and graphical arts. Dave's fierce passion for photography and journalism earned him accolades both locally and in his professional fields. From newspaper photos of the Teton flood to business periodicals, his sharp eye produced stunning works of art.
For over twenty years Dave and Claire owned and operated Anchor Boatworks in Idaho Falls. During this time he touched many customers with his candor, his honesty, and his creativity in the Marine industry. For many years Dave was a member of Snake River Boat Club where his passion for boating, photography, and enjoying his friends and family allowed him to truly enjoy his hobbies and free time. From producing and filming full length instructional aviation movies, to filming a local Bonneville County aired Life Preserver Safety PSA, Dave's passion for his work, his life, and his work ethic touched many residents of the Idaho Falls area. Through his hard work and innovation Dave passed his knowledge of photography, firearms, racing, mechanics, and motorcycling to his sons while also passing on his passion. Dave will never be forgotten for his work ethic, and his ability to conquer a difficult challenge through his diversity and ability. Dave passes his gifts to his family and friends leaving a legacy of capability, creativity, and courage.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Claire Otvos and two children, David Wells Otvos, and Zachary James Otvos of Idaho Falls. He is also survived by two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Helen Otvos and his brother Paul Otvos.
The family will meet with friends at a gathering in his honor at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, at 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013.
