David Wayne Krekel

David Wayne Krekel, 75, of Shelley, passed away April 29, 2023, at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls.

David was born January 12, 1948, in Saint Charles, Missouri, to Perry Logan Krekel and Lorraine Vivian Shrum Krekel. He grew up and attended schools in Missouri and California. He received his Master’s Degree from Idaho State University. He served in the United States Navy.

On December 12, 1970, he married Kathy Rae Westergard in Idaho Falls, Idaho. David and Kathy made their home in Shelley, where David worked for Argonne National Laboratory as a Senior Executive Manager.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Sports Car Club of America. He enjoyed racing with his daughters, sports cars, history and reading.

David is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Larry) Wernow of San Diego, CA; daughter, Alexis (Chris Rekalske) Krekel of Sacramento, CA; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Rae Krekel; sister, Gail Surdyk; and parents, Perry and Lorraine Krekel.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the United States Navy.
