David Rodney Jones, 58, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away August 15, 2012, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene. He had COPD and was admitted to the hospital due to repertory arrest. He was a heavy smoker which exacerbated his condition.
He was born December 24, 1953, in Sonora, California, to James A Jones and Eda Lorraine Rye Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Citrus Heights and Corona, California. He graduated from Corona High School in 1973. He took courses in the Apprentice Electrician Program at Eastern Idaho Technical College and College of Northern Idaho.
He married Mary Paplia in 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had one son, Darrel, and were later divorced.
David was diagnosed with dyslexia early in life and this was a handicap for him all his life. He liked construction work and worked hard at whatever he did. He worked for many years in mobile home fabrication, transport, setup, tear down, service and repair. He had a CDL and drove trucks. He worked on construction projects in the Idaho Falls and Pocatello area. Later he worked at Buck Knives in Post Falls, Idaho, and at LA Aluminum Castings in Hayden, Idaho.
He enjoyed the recreational opportunities in the Coeur d'Alene area and went camping, hiking and exploring new areas whenever he could. He was an avid fisherman and was always successful where ever he went. Some of his fondest memories were of backpacking trips he made with his dad and brother in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California when he was a teenager. He also enjoyed extended canoe trips on Folsom Lake in California and skiing at many areas in the local mountains.
David is survived by his son, Darrell Paplia of Gardnerville, NV; his father, James Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; a brother, Steven (Doris) Jones of Cottonwood, CA; two aunts, Helen Rye of Springfield, MO; and Arlene Williams of Sonora, CA; his cousins, Debra (Reynold) Tallie, Darlene (Glenn) Mills, David (Wanda) Spraggins and Douglas Spraggins, all of Sonora, California.
