David Dickinson

David Lee Dickinson, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 5, 2011 at his home, following a courageous battle with a lingering illness. David was born December 14, 1932 in Pasco, Washington, to Ernest Sylvester and Johanna Luke Dickinson. David was the youngest of four children, and developed a strong work ethic at a very young age. He lettered in high school football, baseball, and basketball and was a member of the student council and FFA, graduating from Kennewick High School in Washington in 1951. In 1956, David graduated from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington and soon thereafter, accepted employment at the Idaho National Laboratory. After 39 years working as a mechanical engineer, he retired in 1995. David married Carol Lee Crockett on September 6, 1957 and has been a dedicated, loving, supportive companion. Their marriage was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they raised a family of four children. He enjoyed fishing with his son and grandchildren, camping, hunting, bowling, and yard work. He coached Little League Baseball and could “fix anything that was broken”. David loved and supported his children and grandchildren in every possible way. Grandpa and Grandma took their children and grandchildren to a cabin in Island Park every summer, Disneyland, Disney World, and Cancun. Dave and Carol were able to take a cruise and travel to Fiji together. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various church callings including Ward Librarian. He especially enjoyed working nine years with the Adult Special Needs Primary program. David and Carol were faithful contributors to the Goodfellow Fund for many years. He was a man who cared deeply about others and helped many people in his lifetime. David is survived by his wife, Carol of Idaho Falls; daughter, Lorna D. (Philip) Jenkins; son, Scot L. (Marne) Dickinson; daughter, Rebecca (Larry) Jackson; 11 grandchildren, Blair and Carly Jenkins, Melissa Calder, Joshua and Brandon Dickinson, Nathan (Brittany), Kyler, Brennan, Jeremy, Dylan, and Whitney Jackson; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Sandra Jo Dickinson; a granddaughter, Hailey Jackson; his parents, a brother, and two sisters. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the loving care provided by Dr. Scott Taylor and Hospice of Eastern Idaho. &nbsp Born: December 14, 1932&nbsp Place of Birth: Pasco, WA&nbsp Death: March 5, 2011&nbsp Place of Death: Idaho Falls, ID
