David "Dave" Clapp

On July 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, Dave’s brother, Randy, came to take him home. He passed away at his home and was also under the care of Access Home Health & Hospice. Dave was born December 29, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to William Eugene Clapp and Helen B. Frickey Clapp, the fourth of six boys. The family lived in Butte, Montana, Shelley and Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he attended schools at BelAire Elementary, Clair E. Gale Junior High School, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. During school he worked in farming and cowboying, then drove truck for Gayle Storer. In November, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Adair Clark. They had one daughter, Amber. In late 1975, Dave was transferred to Great Falls, Montana, with Northwest Steel. They lived there until 1976, when the job ended and they moved back to Idaho Falls. Dave started driving truck for Max Ker & Son Lumber Company. Dave and Adair drove truck together for awhile, taking Amber with them. They divorced in 1979, but remained best friends – and he would still take Amber on the truck with him. In the early 1980s, Dave moved to Bouse, Arizona, where he mostly worked painting reactors. He eventually returned to Idaho Falls and became a lumber salesman for Ker Lumber. He continued to work for them until his health was too bad to work. During Amber’s high school years, Dave was one of the Advisors for the high school Rodeo Team. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #576 and was a very involved member of Elks Lodge #1087. In the Elks he held many titles, including Exalted Ruler, Local and State Elk of the Year - in the same year - State President, and finally a Grand Lodge appointment to District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler. He also chaired the Food Caravan, Highway Cleanup, and the Local Elks Hoop Shoot for many years. There were many other committees and charities that he helped make successful. Later in life he discovered his life’s passion – golf. If he wasn’t working or watching his grandkids, he was on the golf course. He ran the DFL League until his health prevented him from golfing. After golfing, his extended family would meet at the R & R Bar for a drink, game shows, and old movies, courtesy of his “adopted son, Kent “Steedy” Steed. Many good times were had and many good friends were made at the round table. In October of 2004, Dave was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He fought the hard fight for almost eleven years and was getting weary. Amber and her family moved in with Dave in September, 2012, to help him out. As time went on, he needed more help and Adair would take him to doctor appointments and spend time with him. He was truly loved and will be sorely missed by all. Dave is survived by his daughter, Amber (Travis) Lake and two grandchildren, Kash and Kya Lake, four brothers, William (Jackie) Clapp, Jr. of Rigby, ID, Alan (Laurie) Clapp and Kevin Clapp, both of Idaho Falls, ID; and Michael (Teresa) Clapp of Crossville, TN, also many aunts, uncles, and very cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a brother, Randy Clapp. Thanks to Access Home Health & Hospice and Prescription Center Home Infusion – especially Ryan. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge, 640 East Elva. Please bring a story to share. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Dave’s name to the Teton Cancer Institute, 1957 East 25th Street, Idaho Falls, ID 83404, or Primary Children’s Hospital, 100 North Mario Capecchi Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84113.
