David Vernon Chapman, 63, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 11, 2015.
David was born June 14, 1952, in Santa Anna, California, to Vernon Jess Chapman and Mazildean Gosnell Chapman. He grew up in the Avenues of Salt Lake City, Utah, until Junior High. His family then moved to Spokane, WA. After graduating from high school David served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auckland, New Zealand from 1972-1974. He obtained his EMT license. He then graduated from Spokane Community College and received his nursing degree.
David moved to Rexburg, Idaho and on April 2, 1976, he married Laurie Hamm in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They had two sons, Jess and Tyler, and later divorced. After getting married he went on to get his Physicians Assistant degree at the University of Utah. David worked in various offices as a PA, phlebotomist, lab technician and X-Ray Technician. He worked many years in the medical field then changed careers and started working at the Juvenile Corrections Center in St. Anthony, where he worked there from February 23, 1986 to November 10, 2004. He then went into Real Estate and retired 6 months before he passed away.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David enjoyed playing tennis and teaching others to play. He loved fishing and the great outdoors.
David is survived by
son, Jess David Chapman of North Hills, CA,
son, Tyler Michael Chapman ( Lacey) of Crescent City, CA,
two granddaughters, Kayleen Chapman and Natalie Chapman,
brother, Mark Chapman (Michelle) of Saint Anthony, ID,
brother, Phillip Chapman (Robyn) of Saint George, UT,
sister, Cindy Mitchell (Dan) of Terreton, ID,
sister, Debbie Walker (Scott) of Salt Lake City, UT,
sister, Leah Gibbons (Lee) of Orem, UT,
sister, Janet Rials (Ken) of Graham, TX,
sister, Letitia Chapman and many, many, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Rudolph Chapman and his parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Wood East Side.
