David George Bruggenkamp, 82, of Salmon, Idaho, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, with his daughter, Carol Ann Bruggenkamp and niece, Angela Bruggenkamp-Mecham by his side.
Dave was born on February 29, 1944, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Herman and Miriam Prestwich Bruggenkamp of Blackfoot, Idaho. Born on leap day as a twin, his life began with a rare distinction. He was raised in the Pahsimeroi Valley near Salmon, and also spent time growing up in Salmon, Challis, Montana, and Washington. From a young age, Dave demonstrated strong work-ethic and unwavering loyalty and determination. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to1965, including time stationed in Korea.
After his time in the service, Dave built a long and dedicated career in the building industry. He started in 1973 at Ziegler Building Supply in Boise, Idaho, where he remained until their operations ceased in the early 1990's. He then fulfilled his lifelong dream of self-employment by purchasing Cascade Building Supply in Cascade, Idaho, in 1992. Post retirement, he took on contract work with the Idaho Forest Service.
A man of many skills, Dave also pursued a degree in criminology at Idaho State University and Boise State University. Though just a few credits short of graduating, his pursuit reflected his determination and curiosity.
Dave shared a deep bond with his twin brother, Daniel. When Dan fell ill of cancer in 2005, Dave took an early retirement and devoted himself entirely to caring for him– an act that reflected his loyalty and love.
For the last six years of his life, Dave and his daughter Carol shared a home filled with meaningful moments. From happy hour on the deck overlooking the backyard he loved, to quiet time at the kitchen table preparing meals side by side. Dave took immense pride in every home he had, regularly taking on improvement projects, and he enjoyed passing along his knowledge of life's practical things.
A man of quiet strength, steady humor, and deep gratitude, Dave lived a life rooted in love, resilience, and simple joys. To those who knew him best, he was a rock, a teacher, and a consistent source of support. He was deeply sentimental and often left handwritten notes of love and appreciation to those around him. He always said thank you, and never missed an opportunity to express gratitude– even in his final days.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Bruggenkamp, who was honored to care for him and stand beside him until the very end; his only grandchild, Emilee Camille Jones (Patrick Barkwell); his sister, Arla Woolard; half-brothers, Jack and Steve; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his beloved identical twin brother, Daniel Henry Bruggenkamp; his siblings, Helen Billingsley, LaNere Williamson, Nola Huguenin, and Arnold Bruggenkamp; and his nephews, Timothy Laird, and Kevin White.
A Catholic rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by mass at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at St. Charles Catholic Church, 505 Hope Street in Salmon, Idaho. Inurnment will follow in the Salmon Cemetery. Immediately after the graveside services, a luncheon will be held at the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, take a moment to sit outside, share a drink with someone you love, or leave a simple note of appreciation – just as Dave so often did.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Rest in peace, Dad.
