Dave Ashton

Dave C. Ashton - 05/05/2003 Dave C. Ashton - 05/05/2003 DAVE C. ASHTON IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Dave Clifton Ashton, 46, of Idaho Falls, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack on April 29, 2003, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born September 23, 1956, in Idaho Falls, to Alfred Burrell Ashton and Afton May Jensen Ashton. He grew up in Idaho Falls and attended schools here, graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1974. He then attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and graduated from the Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He opened his own chiropractic office in Idaho Falls in 1984. Caring for his patients brought Dave great joy and part of his treatment was always laughter. He married his high school sweetheart, Karla Jean Homer March 3, 1978, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Chelsea, Megan, and Chase, who, along with Karla, were the focus and love of Dave’s life. Whether playing ball games, board games, or starting family water fights, Dave was always the center of the fun. Many wonderful memories were made at the family cabin in Island Park. Nothing pleased Dave more than Watching his children develop their gifts and talents. One of Dave’s greatest gifts was his love for people and his ability to make them laugh. He had an incredible sense of humor! He loved being involved wherever his children were, whether that meant dressing up as an Easter Bunny for a first grade party, rewarding children with candy for mastering their spelling lists, chaperoning field trips, or announcing the football games for the idaho falls Tigers. He championed young people and encouraged them to develop their skills and reach their full potential. In reality, “Doctor Dave” was a friend to all who knew him. Dave was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was very active in his faith from his youth. He has served in many capacities: as a missionary in the Italy Rome Mission, as a Sunday School teacher, Young Men’s advisor, member of the 26th Ward bishopric, and most recently as a Counselor in the Idaho Falls Central Stake Presidency. He was a dedicated home teacher and made a difference in the lives of those families. Dave loved studying and pondering the scriptures. He was a gifted speaker who drew his audience into his talks and discourses. His sense of humor kept everyone’s attention. Nobody fell asleep in a Dave Ashton talk!!! But more importantly, his best sermon was the way he lived his life. He sincerely tried to live according to his beliefs. He was a man of integrity, love and generosity. Dave is survived by the love of his life, Karla, his wife of 25 years, his dear children, Chelsea, Megan and Chase, his mother, Afton Boyle, brothers, Mike (Emma and Van (NaDeene) and his sister, Carolyn (Calvin) Stone. He was preceded in death by his father, Burrell. The family will greet visitors Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, and from 11:30 to 12:40 p.m. at the Idaho Falls Central Stake Center, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive.
