Click Here To View Memorial Video Darwin Ralph Thompson, 87, of Iona, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his home of causes incident to age. Darwin was born September 26, 1926, in Moreland, ID, to Ralph Marion Thompson and Valeda Leavitt Thompson. He was raised in the Teton Valley, attended schools in Cedron and Victor, Idaho, and graduated from Teton High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. He served his country as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On April 1, 1953, he married Ann Murdock in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Throughout the years he has lived in the Teton Valley, spent four years in Moscow, Idaho, a year in Ammon, then 52 years in Salmon, Idaho, before moving to Iona, where he has lived for the past seven years. He was a high-school teacher, teaching vocational agriculture and metal/wood shop. He also taught evening adult welding classes, and spent summertime working for the Forest Service. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings through the years, including as a Bishop, counselor in a Stake Presidency and bishopric, scoutmaster, Young Men president, merit badge counselor, Sunday School president, and many others. Darwin also served a two and a half year Spanish American mission, which spanned from California to Louisiana. He enjoyed beekeeping, horses, leatherwork, wood work, metal work, camping, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his family. Darwin is survived by son, Dr. Rex (Lynne) Thompson of Ammon, ID; daughter, Debra (Robert) Pontius of Beaumont, TX; son, David (Stacey) Thompson of Centennial, CO; son, Kent Thompson of Iona, ID; daughter, Sheila (Eric) Scoresby of Iona, ID; sister, Maurine Kirby of Rogue River, OR; sister, Rosalie Park of Victor, ID; 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ann Thompson, three sisters and one brother. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Iona LDS 1st Ward, 5169 E Denning Avenue, with Bishop Randy Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 am prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

11:00 am ,Saturday, May 10, 2014 Iona LDS First Ward 5169 East Denning Avenue Idaho Falls, ID 83427 Notes: The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
