IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Darwin Felix Smout, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 26, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society Idaho Falls Village.
Darwin was born March 15, 1915 in Mink Creek, Idaho, to Edwin Ward Smout and Ina Josephine Peterson Smout. He attended school in Shelley, Montana, Rigby, and Ucon. He worked in the CC Camp on roads and bridges. Darwin worked on the Union Pacific railroad as a carpenter. He constructed bridges and buildings for 31 years. He retired in 1975.
He married Verda Casper on October 31, 1935 in St. Anthony, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 20, 1958. Verda, his wife of 67 years, preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed reading, yard work, and carpentry work.

Daughter: Gayle (Johnny) Hale, Moreland, ID
Daughter: Cheryl (Woody) Winter, Boise, ID
Sister: Elma Anderson, Idaho Falls, ID
7 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and 9 Great Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verda, son, Darwin, Jr.; brothers, Wilmer, Sterley, Loy and Ray; sisters, Phyllis Brown and Elella Bradshaw.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., with Bishop Michael Baird of the Idaho Falls LDS 21st Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery .
