A good man has graduated with honors from this mortal life. Darwin Charles Murri, son of Charles Henry Murri and Vella Lucille Durney, was born in Twin Groves, Idaho, on September 14, 1932, and passed away on March 23, 2022, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his family. We will miss him being with us.
Darwin learned early in life that if he wanted anything he had to work for it. He was introduced to the building trade as a young man. After graduation from high school, he spent two years in the US Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon returning home, he married Carol Egbert in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and for all eternity. Born to this union were six children: Lance (Trina), Bob (Penney), Mike (Lee), Rhonda (Mike) O'Connor, Hollis (Karin), and Blake (Janell).
They moved to Idaho Falls in 1956 where he worked for different building contractors until he started his own company, Murri Construction. Darwin took a great deal of pride in his work and built many solid and beautiful homes in the area. He was honest with his clients, sub-contractors, and those with whom he associated. He often said to his prospective employees, "If you can't keep up with me, I can't use you."
His family and work were his priority and he slipped a fishing trip or two in when possible. He learned to fish with his father on Fall River in Ashton, Idaho. He and his family built a cabin on Fall River for all of them to enjoy, and enjoy they did. The cabin became a center of wonderful memories. Time spent at the cabin bonded the family in love and unity.
He faithfully served in many callings in the church including as ward clerk, the Bishopric, and High Council. His favorite calling was serving in the Primary while he and Carol lived in Ashton for a couple of years after retiring. They served in the Idaho Falls Temple for nearly 10 years.
In the fall of 1998, Darwin and Carol were called to serve in Nauvoo where he was assigned to oversee new construction for the Nauvoo Restoration program. While there, he supervised construction of the new Brick Yard building, the Family Living Center, and the Newell K. Whitney home. The men also built greenhouses to take care of the grounds for the new Nauvoo Temple to be constructed. His most challenging and rewarding experience was moving the Sun Stone from the Nauvoo Temple site to the Visitors Center. It had to be perfectly level and plumb as well as oriented in specific direction. He worked to help prepare the site for the new temple ground breaking ceremony. He loved this work and met and loved many wonderful people. After a hard day at work, he and Carol joined other missionaries in singing and dancing on the stage of the Cultural Hall, entertaining visitors from all around the world.
Darwin served at the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center where he worked to pack and ship packages to various recipients. He applied his wood working skills to making toy trains, cars, trucks and trailers for children in other countries. Perhaps he now has an opportunity to see how children have benefited from the gifts they received from the Center.
He leaves behind his wife, Carol, of 68 years, 6 children, 26 grandchildren, and 48 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Nadine (Howell), Shirlene (Brower), and Myrna Lou (Stucki).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Stake Center located at 2055 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, in Ammon, Idaho, Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
