Darrel La Mar Wakley, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 10, 2018, at Promontory Point Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving family. Darrel was born May 11, 1938, in Downey, Idaho, to Daniel La Vern Wakley and Mary Edna Evans Wakley. He grew up and attended schools in Downey and graduated from Marsh Valley High School. He also attended Ricks College. Darrel served in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He continued to serve for another 25 years until 1983. He was the Unit Administrator for the 539th Signal Company in Rexburg, Idaho, until his retirement in 1995. He served in the VFW and American Legion. He was proud of these accomplishments in his life, but his greatest joy was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. On December 8, 1962, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Canham, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were blessed with four daughters, Jeannie, Karen, Teresa and Melissa. Darrel and Barbara made their home in Rexburg, Idaho, and they later moved to Idaho Falls. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed genealogy, painting, and collecting coins and books. Darrel was a hero to his children and grandchildren. Darrel is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean Wakley of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Karen Le Challis of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Teresa Ann (Heath) Rushton of St. Anthony, ID; daughter, Melissa Rae (William) Smith of West Haven, UT; brother, Daniel La Mont Wakley of Downey, ID; son-in-law, Stephen Williams of Salem, UT; and 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeannie Ranada Williams; parents, Daniel and Mary Wakley; and sister, Donna Kay Wakley. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Utah Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale, Utah. The family will visit with friends from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park where Military Rites will be performed by the Army Honor Guard.
