Darrel Allmendinger

Darrel Allmendinger, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, at Eagle Rock Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia.

Darrel was born June 9, 1943, in Murray, Utah, to Carl Ferrin Allmendinger and Merna Elizabeth Sadler Allmendinger. He grew up and attended schools in Midvale, Utah, and graduated from Jordan High School. He also attended LDS Business College.

On August 10, 1962, he married Janice Lynne Dunster in the Logan, Utah Temple. For his career, Darrel worked as a pipefitter for Union Pacific Railroad. He always loved it when the steam engine came into town. He and Janice made their home in Sandy, Utah, until a move for the railroad took them to Hermiston, Oregon. After Darrel retired, he and Janice moved to Idaho Falls where Darrel enjoyed working with his son, Steve, at his welding shop. He liked welding, but especially loved his time with Steve. Another thing Darrel enjoyed was stamp collecting. He started as a young boy and continued that hobby until just a few years ago.

Darrel loved his wife and family. He loved it when the kids and grandkids came to visit their home wherever they lived. He was always appreciative when anyone helped around the house in any way, especially once he had a hard time getting around. In his later years, he was often heard saying, “I love you very much.” Darrel also loved his dogs, Max and Charlie. He always wanted to keep them close to him and in his sight.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Janice Lynne Allmendinger of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Teri Ewell (Bradford) of Fruit Heights, UT; sons, Steve Allmendinger (Erica) of Idaho Falls, ID and Jeff Allmendinger (Chris) of Taylorsville, UT; grandchildren, Justin, Keagan, Elisha, Carly, Kameron, and Bailie; great-grandchild, Serenetee; and his twin brother, David Allmendinger of Mesa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Erica; and two grandsons, Justin and Keagan.

The family is grateful to the nurses and other caretakers at Eagle Rock Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia for the way in which they cared for him in his last few weeks of life.

A graveside service for close friends and family will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Memorial Lake Hills, 10055 S. State Street, Sandy, UT  84070.
