D. STACYE BLISS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- D. Stacye Bliss returned to our Heavenly Father December 2, 2008. He was born in Ault Colorado to Ira Claire and Thystle Lodena Deal Bliss. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Bud) Bliss (Elnora) of Greeley, Colorado and a sister, LaVon Barrett of Longmont, Colorado. Preceding him in passing are his sisters Edrie Claire Rickard and Eltelka Bliss and a brother who died in infancy, all of Colorado. Stacye married his sweetheart, Dorothy Elaine Poulter (deceased) and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have one daughter, Sandra Elaine Bliss Smith of Orem, Utah. Stacye attended schools in Colorado, Wyoming, Clarks Idaho Falls Business School, and the University of Southern California Juvenile Delinquent Institute. He was also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie School. During World War II he served from 1941-1945 in the South Pacific theatre. He was employed by the Idaho Falls Police Department for 12 years, serving as President of the Idaho Police Association and helping to organize the PAL (Police Organization League.) He was also employed by the Old Faithful Beverage Company for over 30 years. Stacye exemplified public service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) serving 2 Years as Post 2146 Commander, 2 years District 8 Commander, and received an award from the Department of Idaho for appreciation of Outstanding Service in Publicity. He was a member of the American Legion and served with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and served as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple. Nearly 50 years of Stacye’s life was devoted to the Boy Scouts of America. He served 23 years in Scouting as Scout Master. He received the Award of Merit, Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow, Troop #544 and Scouter of the year 1973, Extra Miler Award and Scouters Key, Silver Beaver and Wood Badge in 1974, Scouting Hall of Fame-Teton Peaks Council and Grand Teton Council in 1985, Miniature Eagle Feather 1987, Scoutmaster Award of Merit and Mentor of Youth Award. He was also a James West Fellow. Stacye took his scouts to the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia, 1981, The World Scout Jamboree in Calgary and the National Scout Jamboree in Fort AP Hill. At his 90th birthday celebration, the mayor of Idaho Falls, Jared Fuhriman, Jr., presented Stacye with the Outstanding Lifetime Service Certificate of Recognition. Stacye is survived by his daughter, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Stacy Smith of Ellicott City, MD, Terrell Smith (Kelly) and granddaughter Zoe Claire of Lansdale, PA and Susanne Smith and grandson Nicholas Smith-Davis of Orem, UT. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward (1155 1st Street) with Bishop Doug Hillman officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
