Darlene Murdoch - 08/13/2002 Darlene Murdoch - 08/13/2002 ZELMA DARLENE MURDOCH IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Zelma Darlene Murdoch died peacefully at home on August 12, 2002, surrounded by her loving and devoted husband, and family. She succumbed to brain cancer after a short illness. Darlene was born July 14, 1935, in Burley, to Fritz and Wanda Perkins Johnson (later Holland). She spent her childhood in Idaho Falls, attending Eastside Grade School, O. E. Bell Jr. High, and Idaho Falls High School. She married Gilbert Dean Murdoch on August 20, 1952 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They are the parents of ten children. The family moved to Monterrey and later Guadalajara, Mexico, for eight years, where Gilbert opened and managed the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain throughout Mexico. The family returned to Idaho Falls in 1973. Darlene was affectionately known as Nannie to her family, which includes 50 grandchildren and great grandchildren. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed church work, including genealogy, service in the temple, and support of the missionary program. Many outside her family were beneficiaries of her kindness and endless hours of caring service. She treated everyone as her own and took special care to make sure she attended to the needs of others. Her hobby truly was her family and friends. Her every waking thought was finding ways to help others and keep her family close. She never missed a blessing, baptism, marriage, birth celebration or other special event of those she knew. Darlene is survived by Gilbert, her husband of 50 years; six sons, Fritz [Patti] of Burley; Hal [Susan] of Rye, England; Juan [Dyanne] of Rigby; David [Heather] of Rigby; Manuel [Emilee] of Blackfoot;Daniel [Tara] of Idaho Falls, and four daughters, Merrilee [Allan] Webb, a mission mom in Carracas, Venezuela; Barbara [Mikel] Walker of Rexburg, Idaho; Donna [William] Waite of Newport Coast, CA; and Alicia [Jared] Snarr of Provo, Utah. She is also survived by her sisters, Gay [George] Johnson, of Driggs, and Joy [Iver] Elg, of Boise. Visitation will be held at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, and also one hour prior to the funeral services at the church. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2002, at the Osgood Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7940 North 35 West, Idaho Falls). Burial will follow in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Darlene will be missed but she is now with many loved ones who passed before, including her parents, a sister, and other family members and friends. To have spent a short moment with Darlene would have been enough to know her goodness, but to know her for 1000 years would not be enough to receive all her love.
