Daren James Murdock

Daren James Murdock, 56, of Idaho Falls, passed away January 6, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Daren was born November 7, 1966, in Pico Rivera, California. He was the son of Frank James Murdock and Connie Shurtliff Murdock. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School. After high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Winnipeg Mission. He also attended Ricks College and finished a certification in drafting at Davis Applied Technology Center.

On April 28, 1989, he married Dorothy “Dottie” Louisa Ferrin in the Salt Lake City, Utah LDS Temple. Daren and Dorothy made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Daren built his own business as an architectural draftsman.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life. He enjoyed building and painting miniature models such as cars, planes, war figurines, and more. He also enjoyed computers and sci-fi, especially “Star Trek,” and loved playing board games with his family.

Daren is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Murdock of Idaho Falls, ID; his mother, Connie Murdock of Idaho Falls, ID; daughters, Denise (Branden) Miller of Fond Du Lac, WI, Danielle Murdock of Idaho Falls, ID, Devyn (Kade) Schmalz of Iona, ID, Dayia (Daniel) Shurtleff of Roy, UT, Derika Murdock of Idaho Falls, ID, and Dana (Ashur) LaRose of Idaho Falls, ID; sons, Dray Murdock and Daren James “D.J.” Murdock II, both of Idaho Falls, ID; his identical twin brother, Ryan (Brenda) Murdock of Taylorsville, UT; and siblings, Melanie (Greg) Norrell of Idaho Falls, ID, Todd (Kim) Murdock of Burley, ID, Chad (Lesa) Murdock of Idaho Falls, ID, Dan (Brittney) Murdock of Syracuse, UT, Kaylin (Benjamin) Manwaring of Idaho Falls, ID, and Cheryl Ann Caouette of Boise, ID; mother-in-law, Darlene Ferrin of Ogden, UT; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank James Murdock; father-in-law, Robert Ferrin; nephew, Spencer Manwaring; niece, Ameilia Ryann Vigil; and nephew, Kollin Patrick Vigil.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the Lincoln 3rd Ward, 2545 Mesa Street, with Bishop Thurman officiating. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the funeral services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
