Daniel Burdette Sears, 80, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 18, 2023, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
Dan was born January 3, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, to Merle B. Sears and Frances Elizabeth Ufford Sears. He grew up and attended schools in Lebanon, Oregon. Dan joined the Navy in 1962 and served honorably for 22 years. He served on many naval vessels and a tour in Vietnam.
On April 16, 1977, Dan married Helen Mary Grondzik in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dan and Helen made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he worked as a Machinist for the US Navy. After Dan retired from the Navy he worked for C-A-L Ranch Stores in Idaho Falls.
Dan enjoyed camping and fishing throughout his lifetime and hunting with his dad in Oregon. One of his favorite things while living in Idaho was his annual trips through Yellowstone National Park with Helen. Dan was very good at fixing things and always willing to help when others needed help with a project. He was very friendly to all he came in contact with, after a few minutes with Dan no one was a stranger. He was actively involved with the Idaho Falls Senior Citizens Community Center and enjoyed being their Bingo Caller for a time. He was also an avid pool player and loved his time with his pool buddies.
Dan is survived by his wife, Helen Sears of Idaho Falls, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Merle B. Sears and Frances Elizabeth Sears, sisters, Madalin Cleveland and Carolyn Finn, and brother, Larry Sears.
Dan’s memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Freeman Park Veterans Memorial, 1290 Science Center Drive.
