Daniel Joseph Forkenbrock, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 10, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Dan was born August 21, 1945, in San Diego, California, to Francis Joseph "Joe" Forkenbrock and Cecelia "Cece" Wellong Forkenbrock. He grew up and attended schools in San Diego and graduated from Point Loma High School. He attended San Diego City College where he earned an Associates Degree in Alcohol and Other Drug Studies (AODS), and received his CAADE Certificate. He did extensive studies at the University of Utah, and also earned his CADC Certificate through the state of Idaho. On February 29, 2000, he married Christy Allison Benjamin in Rough and Ready, California. Dan and Christy made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for the past seven years. He worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Mono County, California, and with Four Directions Treatment in Fort Hall, Idaho. He was a member of the Catholic Church, the Democratic Party and a faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Forkenbrock family comes from a proud and extensive German heritage, with members ranging from California to the Midwest, as well as Germany. Dan enjoyed traveling, history, ghost towns, films, fishing, recovery and working with addicts and alcoholics. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Christy Forkenbrock of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Barbara (Freddie) Martin of Wyoming. daughter, Samantha Carlyle of Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan and Brian Johnson; great grandchildren, Chloe and Caden; son, Anthony (Cody Webster) McNeil of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Matthew (Angela) Funderberg of Oregon; grandchildren, Dillon and Kole Funderberg daughter, Mari Benjamin of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Rod Firouzbakhsh of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Lois Timmerman of California; grandchildren, Alex and Jake Timmerman; son, Scot Forkenbrock of California daughter, Danna (Keith) Phillips of California grandchildren, Brittany and Leigh Anna Phillips son, John (Encarlina) Metzger of California son, Damian (Beth) Hayes of New York; grandchildren, Lydia & Ian Hayes; unofficially adopted son, Dave Messick of Firth, ID one of the loves of Dan and Christy’s life, Madam Bijou, their dog. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Forkenbrock, and his mother, Cece Forkenbrock. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
