DANA J. VARACALLE
IDAHO FALLS, ID - Dana Jean Varacalle, 56, of Idaho Falls,
died August 23, 2004 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following
an extended illness. She was born in Helena, Montana August 8, 1948 to Harold
and Jean Thompson of Elliston, Montana. Dana graduated from Powell Country
high school in Deer Lodge, Montana. She attended Carroll College in Helena,
Montana.
On February 14, 1969, she married Dominic Varacalle in
Littleton, Colorado, and resided in that area for a number of years. She
was employed as a comptroller by the Martin Marietta Corporation in Waterton,
Colorado.
They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1974. She then returned
to her studies at Idaho State University and graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in ecology and environmental science. She worked for EG&G, Inc.
at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory as an environmental scientist.
In 1985, Dana became inflicted and eventually incapacitated
by Multiple Sclerosis.
Dana enjoyed art, music, camping, skiing, playing the piano
and running. She participated in the Governor’s Cup marathon in Helena
on two occasions. She had a wonderful sense of humor, love of animals and
will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Dominic Varacalle of Idaho
Falls, her parents Harold and Jean Thompson of Elliston, Montana, her sister
Carolyn Alm of Townsend, Montana, her brother Harold Thompson, Jr. of Elliston,
Montana, and her sister Dalene Herriman of Pampa, Texas.
There will be a viewing at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge,
Idaho Falls, Idaho) on Friday August 27, 2004 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Graveside
services will be conducted at the Elliston cemetery in Elliston, Montana
on Monday August 30, 2004 starting at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the
National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
