Dale F. Sommer, 81, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 25, 2011, at The Gardens Assisted Living Center in Rigby, Idaho. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice. Dale was born December 19, 1929, in Hibbard, Idaho, to Fred Sommer and Edith Parks Sommer. He grew up in Hibbard and attended schools in the area. He served as a Seaman in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on the Aircraft Carrier USS Philippine Sea. On April 19, 1953, he married Etta Gwen Grover in Rexburg, Idaho. They moved to Idaho Falls 50 years ago and have lived in the same home on Beverly Road ever since. Dale worked as a truck driver for IML Freight, H & K Contractors and others in the area. Dale was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, golf, leatherwork, and spending time with his family. Dale is survived by two sons, Bret Dale Sommer and Kirk Vern Sommer, both of Idaho Falls, ID; a sister, Eva (Tom) Siebert of Salt Lake City, UT; and two grandchildren, Benjiman Brock and Sherry R. Sommer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Mike Dee Sommer, two brothers, Kenneth Sommer and Ross Sommer, and two sisters, Ethel and Elma. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Gene Reese, First Counselor in the Bishopric of the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Archer-Sutton Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Madison County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
