Dale Gooch Olson, 90, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away December 18, 2017, at Heritage Place Care Center in Bountiful, Utah. Dale was born October 4, 1927, in Virginia, Idaho, to Emil Alvin Olson and Anna Meria Gooch Olson. He grew up in Virginia and attended Downey schools, graduating from Downey High School. He then attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Dale served his country as a medic in the U. S. Army during World War II. On August 10, 1949, he married Gladys Renee Evans in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born three children, Susan, Brad and Karen. Dale and Renee made their home in Idaho Falls, where Dale worked as a senior scientist for the Department of Energy at the Atomic Energy Commission (now the INL). Renee passed away September 28, 2017. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale served in numerous callings over the years, including as Stake President of the Idaho Falls North Stake, Bishop of the Idaho Falls 17th Ward, and Stake Patriarch in the Idaho Falls West Stake. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, cutting gem stones and making jewelry. He was very handy and could fix anything around the house. Family was his highest priority. Dale was a gentleman and kind to a fault. He loved the scriptures and was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Dale lived his life for his family and his faith. Dale is survived by two daughters, Susan (L. Rich) Humpherys of Bountiful, UT, and Karen Olson of Idaho Falls, ID, a son, Bradley Dale (Nora Tuminez) Olson of Irvine, CA, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Renee, three brothers, Alvin, Earl and Cecil, and four sisters, Estella, Isobell, Fontella, and Artel. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Stan Malm, counselor in the Grandview Ward Bishopric, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Dale’s close veteran friends.
